Iyengar Yoga
First known for its emphasis on alignment, Iyengar yoga is classical, Indian hatha yoga, known for its many therapeutic applications. Teachers provide direct, individualized instruction, accessible to all.
It is an ideal system of yoga for all students, from advanced level to new beginner.
Iyengar certified teachers are held to extremely rigid standards and will study many years before earning a certification for teaching. Continued study is a life-long process for most Iyengar teachers.
WHAT TO EXPECT
Well-Being
Students receive individualized instruction appropriate to their level, and can expect a more involved experience, with teachers adjusting and assisting to ensure that students move in a safe, efficient manner. Some classes are physically rigorous while others are slow-paced and restorative.
Individualized Alignment
Accurate, precise, specific instruction is given so that students learn correct alignment within each asana (pose). Instruction-based classes prevent injury, and help students build strength, stamina, balance, and flexibility. Alignment provides the students with focus and a sense of well-being.
Restorative
Iyengar Yoga is an ideal treatment for injuries and myriad medical conditions. Within classes, poses are often modified and taught therapeutically. Our teachers have a trained eye and a keen awareness of your body's movement, working in much the same way a physical therapist might work.
